Simply TBR 1.1.3: Still Within Reach

This one came out of actually using the app this week... finishing a book, reviewing my NetGalley queue, and adding a new author to watch. During which I noticed a few things that needed fixing along the way.

Finishing a Book

While going through exit ceremony there's a list of places you can log your books. I noticed once you clicked one (which takes you to their page in your browser) and returned you couldn't click it again when it was checked off. That wouldn't do... what if you got distracted or whatnot. Life. So now, even when crossed out, you can still tap it to see the book again. Additionally, after looking at those other steps, I realized with life you may want to copy the notes again and so made the first step, with the addition of a copy button, tappable too. No need to go digging anymore.

Genre Filtering

I was so excited to share the Exit Ceremony with you but had pushed the last update, at that time, just the day before... so started looking at what else I could do... and found Genre. The list, with all my books, was incredibly long as it's based on book metadata so I updated it to be easier to select and deselect along with searching through the genres.

Then I luckily tested it in dark mode and realized the selected drop down text was hard to see on first load and spent the rest of the day attempting and finally solving that for you!

NetGalley Author Watch

I went to add a new author to my author watch (Felicia Day... the Guild Kickstarter just dropped, I realized there was Guild the Musical, and then discovered a new book) but saw checking my authors didn't see me logged in so of course how would it know which books I had or needed! I went to check my feedback and I was already logged in. So I attempted to import my NetGalley books and it worked too...

An earlier update had started using cookies for your NetGalley sessions so you didn't have to repeatedly log in all the time. Somehow Author Watch, despite being sped up on the last update, had stayed logged in and I hadn't realized it didn't share its cookie with the other NetGalley windows. I was logged out only in Author Watch and so couldn't log back in.

This is now fixed. Author Watch now shares access with the other NetGalley points so if you're ever logged out in one you can easily log in and it will work everywhere. And then just in case I added a way to log in through Author Watch so you can easily log back in there rather than getting blocked and needing to try other ways like I did.

And Beyond

Beyond that there's been minor updates with accent color fixes, default preferences, and a new "Show All Books" button if your filtering gets too extreme.

It's a smaller update, but each piece came from actually running into it this week.
