Simply TBR 1.3.1: Back Where It Belongs
As I go about my day, I pay attention to the little things in my apps that bug me and fix them as I go. Most of them feel too small for an update on their own. Today though I looked back through my recent changes in Simply TBR and realized they’d added up... so here they are.
Import Amazon Purchases Is Back
Someone on Reddit asked for an Android version of Simply TBR. I’d already started converting my other two apps, so I began the rudimentary steps of this one too. Going through the code, I noticed something off with how the Amazon Purchases, Audible, and subscriptions toggles worked together. Import Amazon Purchases had been hiding in Add a Book from back when I combined them. Now Add a Book only shows those import options when you’ve turned the matching sources on, and stays out of the way when you haven’t.
Author Watch
While writing this I realized where I spent my time recently... author watch.
Reordered Results
I added a new author a while back and found them hidden at the bottom of the list. Authors with new books had already been moved to the top when grouped by result, but brand-new, unchecked authors didn’t. Now new books still come first, followed by any authors you haven’t checked yet, then everyone else.
Checking Only Newly Added Authors
Checking all authors still works the same way, unchecked first and then oldest to newest. But when fixing the ordering I realized it can be annoying to start a longer run when you only want to check the newly added ones. Now, when the new authors are there, there's a second button to check only them whether it's one, two, or more.
Fewer Log-in Prompts
I kept getting asked to log in to NetGalley, tapping the button, and finding I was already signed in... nice that I didn’t actually need to, but annoying. Author Watch was set up differently than the rest of the app, so now it quietly tries to reconnect first and only asks you to log in if you’re actually signed out.
Fixed Swipe to Delete
When testing all this, I added a few test authors, and deleting them reminded me of a fix I’d made in my other apps that never made it here. If your results were grouped, swiping to delete would crash. It’s working properly now, so you can swipe, delete, and carry on.
And Beyond
- Clearer messages when the search finds nothing.
- Show all Books now only appears in search when there's no results and a filter is active.
- The date on a shared book no longer gets cut off... happened with longer month names.
As always if anything feels off I'd love to hear from you. Hope you're having a great October.
