Simply TBR 1.1.5: Small Fixes, Better Bones

Simply TBR 1.1.5: Small Fixes, Better Bones

This one grew bigger than I expected. I started consolidating code then a subscription fix... then that turned into making imports more robust, checking on NetGalley, and some other small updates.

Getting Subscriptions Right

I recently read a post on Reddit that pointed out something I'd missed. I'd added grace periods into App Store Connect... but I didn't realize that the app itself still needed to check for it properly. So I dug into my subscription handling, realized that the duplication in each app could be consolidated and shared, and hooked it all back up. With this update Simply TBR goes beyond subscription statuses to include downgrades, grace period when a subscription lapses, messaging when expired, and includes links so you don't need to look up how to find Apple's billing.

NetGalley

Multiple Logged in Accounts

I'd added the ability to switch between different NetGalley domains but realized if you do that the saved login stomps the previous one. It's now saved per domain so you could, if needed, swap easily between them.

Archive Date on Book Covers

If you toggled archive dates on they already showed up in your book lists but now they also show on your books covers. Don't like seeing it? It's still controlled by the same toggle and you can easily hide them all.

Warning for Non-English Domains

I'd tested out the feedback ratio for each of the possible domains... but realized unless I want my TBR to be even bigger, and maybe impossible to read, I can't test all the domains properly for author watch. You can still access everything for each domain... but I've added a warning with a handy link so if you find anything wrong, especially the non-English ones, please reach out.

Fable

When exporting your reviews to Fable it attempts to open your book directly but only truly works if I have the ISBN. For other books it now takes you to the homepage rather than a placeholder book.

Open Library

Recently (currently?) Open Library went down and the import took forever as it kept waiting for a reply that wasn't coming. At first I didn't know what was wrong but after heading to diagnostics I realized... and used it to my advantage. I reordered the imports, added more ways to bring in data, and overall it’s more robust. Also now if Open Library doesn't return a result it stops trying and gives you a warning so you know what's happening.

And Beyond

Along with this I fixed some slight UI issues like the buttons on the Mac overlapping with the numbers when fetching book covers and metadata along with a few other small layout tweaks along the way.

If anything feels off, I'd love to hear from you. And like always... I hope you're having a wonderful day!
