Simply Customize It 1.3.0: Easier to Keep Tidy
This one's a smaller update, but it came out of actually using the app more than usual lately. A handful of things had been bugging me, so I sat down and worked through them.... and then they grew.
Easier Cleanup
I'd been playing around and let my own templates pile up. When I went to clean them out, one at a time, I found it quite tedious. And so I added multi-select delete both for templates and across all the browse forms. While in the template browse I also added more information like date created, date last modified (if different), and included the portrait (or landscape) icon making it much easier to find what you're looking for and clear out what you don't need.
During this I also noticed new templates weren't picking up the default template you'd set for your reMarkable and that your browse view was resetting more often than it should. Both are fixed now... your default view only resets if you fully close and reopen the app.
Keyboard Dismiss
Tapping outside a text field in iOS wasn't always closing the keyboard the way it should and I had fixed it, with a button, in some spots. I've now added the button to all textfields so that shouldn't be an issue again.
Device and User Handling
I've recently been adding new devices to the app to test the flow and noticed it would be so much easier if it was automatically selected when adding them. I also added a test connection button right to the edit form so you can check things are working without leaving the screen. And I then updated my reMarkable and noticed OCR (text recognition) wasn't working when taking a photo of your credentials anymore and updated that too.
Trusting a New Device Identity
A recent fix from a code audit meant the app got stricter about verifying your reMarkable's identity before connecting... which is a good thing.
It can also be annoying and unexpected, like when the reMarkable itself updates and changes its identity. So I've also added a proper confirmation step, so if your device's identity changed because of a legitimate reMarkable update you can simply press a button to trust it and continue. And if something actually looks off, you'll know.
And Beyond
I noticed deleting an item from Group Display wasn't always working right so I tracked that down and got it working properly again. Along with that there's always minor fixes that hopefully make your experience better.
If anything feels off or isn't working the way you'd expect, please reach out. I'd love to hear from you.
Until next time, Kyra 💕
