Simply Remember It 2.2.1: Understandable Sharing
Back in 2.1.0 I mentioned I was going to test sharing with my own family before making any noise about it. This update is what came out of that... it's a smaller one, a simple patch rather than a feature release, but it's full of things that matter. The kind of things you only find when you actually use something.
Renaming Shared People
I shared some chore tasks out in a group text. My husband Matt logged one. Then my kids and I each logged it too.
I was able to see who everyone was but my husband was only able to see my name and the other three entries were labeled "Me". This made the entries tab, which is supposed to show who logged what, way less useful than it should've been.
I had already added the ability to rename people but had restricted it to people who were able to share (higher tier) because I assumed the original naming would be valid... as it had been up until then. This wasn't the case and now that's fixed. Anyone, free account or not, can go in and rename a person they share a task with. Plus I added that person's last three logs to the display making it easier to figure who is who.
Receiving Tasks
I had been testing sharing and receiving tasks with the received end having a free or unlimited account. I wanted to go beyond that and test the other way so my family now have a paid subscription tier and I used my husband's phone to share a task with me.
I had made it that tasks shared with you could have some elements customized to your wants without affecting other people. This means you can toggle whether metrics are seen (or not), change the assigned category, and alter the appearance with the emoji and color. That way someone can have a magenta theme going and still share tasks with someone who loves blue.
To streamline that I had set an area in sharing, if you have the paid tier, to set the defaults when a new task was shared with you, that's now been tested and updated to fully work. If you want all incoming tasks to go into a pending category or have a particular color or emoji that now happens. Keep it nil to use the passed in task's value.
Widget Update
After adding the chores to my app I realized I didn't want to see them in my widget so I updated it. Now in addition to show all or a single particular category you can set the widget to show tasks in multiple categories and exclude others. Now my widget excludes the Chore category letting it feel a bit more curated and less frantic in the morning.
And Beyond
In addition to this several minor additions were noticed and fixed including the preset tab loading properly, color normalization across the app, updated text in a couple of places, and the shared section now has its own dedicated spot with a custom lock so it feels more intentional.
Everything else is the same. If you've been using Together, Unlimited, or the free version and something still feels off, please reach out. I'm actively paying attention to how sharing in particular is working in the real world but any feedback is welcome and I'd genuinely love to hear from you.
