Simply Remember It: Preparing for Widgets (and Keeping Your Data Safe!)

Today’s update is a small one on the surface, but an important one behind the scenes... especially as Simply Remember It gets ready for the new widgets coming in January!

This release lays the technical foundation the widgets need so they can show your upcoming tasks, let you quickly log completions, reschedule with a tap, and give you charting at a glance. Nothing about how you use the app changes today, but this update makes everything that comes next possible.

What's New

Smarter, Safer Data Storage

Simply Remember It now uses a more secure storage system that is shared between the app and its upcoming widgets.

Before, your data lived in the default iCloud location Apple assigns to every app. That worked great for the app alone, but widgets need a shared, central data store to stay fast and accurate. So this update quietly moves your data into a protected App Group container that both the app and widgets can access safely.

Your tasks, measurements, and history remain exactly the same, private and fully under your control, just stored in a smarter place.

One-Time Automatic Migration

If you’ve used Simply Remember It before this update, the app will automatically and quietly move your existing data into its new shared space.

It takes just a moment.

You won’t see a popup.

And you don’t need to do anything at all.

If you’re installing the app for the first time, you won’t notice anything... you’re already set up in the new system.

iCloud Sync Works the Same

Your data will continue syncing through iCloud just as before. Nothing about your syncing, sharing, or device behavior changes.

This update simply prepares the app for what’s coming next.

This is a one-time step. After updating, everything stays in sync as usual.

Why This Matters

I’m building a set of new widgets for January so you can see at a glance:

• see what’s due at a glance
• quickly log something done
• or simply reschedule it
• view charts without opening the app

For widgets to be reliable, fast, and safe, the app and widgets must share the same data store. This update puts that foundation in place so everything feels seamless when the new widgets arrive.
