This update came from several directions at once. Better task and habit retrieval from [*Simply Remember It*](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/simply-remember-it/id6749085897?ref=simplykyra.com), a crash report from [*Simply Customize It*](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/simply-customize-it/id6443862161?ref=simplykyra.com), and being a bit critical when scanning books to add to my stack... all ended up here, and together they added up to more than a patch.

## Your Books in Spotlight

I've been working on [*Simply Remember It*](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/simply-remember-it/id6749085897?ref=simplykyra.com) to bring up your tasks and log your habits quicker... and realized having my books in Spotlight would be perfect.

I often use Spotlight to both access apps and to kick off Safari searches on my phone. With this addition, when I come across a book, I can search it and, if I already own it, [*Simply TBR*](https://apps.apple.com/app/id6770712702?ref=simplykyra.com) will pop up and remind me.

![Side by side iPhones. First searching Witch and getting Simply TBR and Goodread results while the right side looks up an author showing all of his books in Simply TBR.](https://storage.ghost.io/c/d3/68/d3684a67-f3a9-4c11-9d37-bc9fc8fe73ed/content/images/2026/11/compressed_3---Screenshot.png)

Spotlight in action on my phone.

And whether I'm reading and want to jot down a quick note or I finish the book and want to complete it I can easily search for it by title or author in Spotlight to access it quicker without needing to search within the app or change out my default browse filters.

And if you'd rather keep your books out of Spotlight you can. Simply go into Settings, App Preferences (renamed from Startup Preference), and scroll down. There's a toggle under Search found between On App Load and Appearance. Just toggle it off and your books won't appear.

![Image shows a screenshot of the macOS App Preference with the new Search section bordered.](https://storage.ghost.io/c/d3/68/d3684a67-f3a9-4c11-9d37-bc9fc8fe73ed/content/images/2026/11/compressed_1---Screenshot.png)

Settings -> App Preferences (was Startup Preference) -> Scroll down to Search to toggle off.

At this time I don't see a reason to add the books to Shortcuts as there are no repetitive steps... that said, if you do see a reason [please let me know](mailto:mail@simplykyra.com?subject=TBR%20Shortcuts) and I can look into adding it.

## Adding a Book by Hand

I've been playing around with the idea of this app on Android and had some trouble finding the book I was scanning. It got me realizing if the lookup failed, for whatever reason, it was troublesome to go out of the search and then need to go back in to manually enter your book details.

So I took that and fixed it here. The manually added book section has been upgraded and renamed to *Type It*... and replaced the old ISBN entry. Now when you scan a barcode and there's no result, you can simply tap a button to type it in with the ISBN already entered. From there, *Read Photo* can read the book's cover and *Look Up* can search for it again.

![Image shows the complete list of ways to add a book to the app next to an iPhone showing the Type It (updated Manually entered) section.](https://storage.ghost.io/c/d3/68/d3684a67-f3a9-4c11-9d37-bc9fc8fe73ed/content/images/2026/11/compressed_2---Screenshot.png)

Enter the name and/or author? Use **Look Up* to get the cover. Added a photo of the cover? Use **Read Photo* to attempt to enter the right title and author quicker.

## Crash on macOS 27

Through a submitted crash report for [*Simply Customize It*](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/simply-customize-it/id6443862161?ref=simplykyra.com)I realized what used to be a warning when a sheet resized is now a crash on macOS 27\. And so I added a fix there... and put a breakpoint so when testing any of my apps if a resize happens, regardless of what I'm doing, the app stops, I notice, and I fix it. This is rolling out to all my apps including [*Simply TBR*](https://apps.apple.com/app/id6770712702?ref=simplykyra.com).

## And Beyond

This update consisted of several things including small UI layouts and actions that bugged me as I used the apps and so I paused to fix them. One such example was cut off text in the Settings area on my Mac.

As always if anything feels off [I'd love to hear from you](mailto:mail@simplykyra.com?subject=Simply%20TBR). Hope the time change, if it applies in your area, wasn't too ugh-inducing and you have a great November.
